The Pretzel Story
(as told by Tom Boylan)

It was during our second year of law school. Jascha was in Business Organizations class. I was in the Atrium, preparing for my next class.  While I was sitting there, I looked up, and saw Jascha walking through the Atrium. We said hello, and made small talk. He then proceeded into the cafeteria. A few moments later, he walked out with a pretzel. I did not think anything of it. I did not realize, at that time, he was in class.  About ten minutes later, Professor Hirschfeld (the professor for Business Organizations) came into the Atrium. We said hello, and then she proceeded into the cafeteria. Soon, she emerged with a pretzel. End of story, right?

Not quite.

Later that day, I found out what happened...Jascha was in Business Organizations class. This was a fairly large class, usually around 80-90 students. He was seated in the middle of a row, in the middle of the classroom.  During the middle of class, he got up, and walked out of class. He then proceeded towards the cafeteria, where I saw him. He got his pretzel, and returned to class.  Needless to say, Professor Hirschfeld was not pleased. You can just imagine Jascha carrying the pretzel, as he attempted to wind his way back towards his seat, in the middle of the room!!! With everyone, including the Professor, looking at him!  Professor Hirschfeld stopped what she was doing, and looked right at Jascha.  I am not sure the exact words she used. Something to the effect that she was not pleased with what Jascha had just done. She then stated that she too wanted a pretzel. So, she walked out of the classroom, and down to the cafeteria, where I saw her.  You can only imagine the reaction of the rest of the class when she walked out of the room. My understanding of Jascha's reaction was typical for him.  He did not see what was the big deal.
