I
had the opportunity to go to an Oakland County Bar Association dinner
with Jascha. Those things are incredibly dull and boring, but this was
the first time I was going with Jascha and he was very excited about it
because it featured a "strolling dinner." Sandy, Jascha and I
attended.
After
the hob-knobbing Sandy left, and Jascha and I stayed for dinner. While
other guests were doing their final drink and talk, etc., Jascha and I
scoped out the food layout and made plans. I started at one end of the
appetizers and he started at the other. As soon as the invocation was
done, Jascha and I were the first in line at our respective tables, got
our food and met back at the table in the middle. We shared the food we
had each gathered and then spread out again to the other tables. We
covered all the tables in a very short period of time. While others were
still in line looking at the available food, Jascha and I had tasted
everything, and went back for seconds at the good tables. It was the
only time I stayed for dinner at this particular Bar Association
function for what it was (potentially a boring a dull event) and made it
fun.
I
didn't realize at the time how much I viewed him as a little brother,
but I did, and I do. Going into his office, while he was on the phone
with his friends, was like entering Melrose Place and 90210. He was fun,
amusing, and he totally cracked me up. Another vivid memory of
Jascha is his teasing of me of coming to the office with wet hair (which
is frequent--I live very near by). One time, he swore he saw me driving
around the Oracle Building, with my hands in the "10 and 2
position", and with my wet hair and little red car, and he knew,
obviously, that it was me. To this day, I cannot dry my hair without
thinking of him. When I arrive at work with wet hair, which happens, it
reminds everyone of his comment to me. Jascha was totally cool and
special, and he always will be.
